Flinging open the door, Ryan sprinted up the steps behind Ajana hoping to catch her in time before she got into her hotel room and locked him out. He wouldn’t be able to get in unless he kicked the door down, and he couldn’t do that because he would draw too much attention to him and Ajana. He wanted them to lay low as possible, but after the way she rushed away from him there was no way that didn’t draw attention.

Damn it!

He knew if he told her the truth this would happen. Ajana still didn’t believe he was on her side. What else did he have to do to prove he was going to help her out of this? When he got to the sixth floor, Ryan ran through the door and down the hall in time to see Ajana as she was opening the door and going inside of her room.

“Ajana…wait!” He yelled just as the door slammed shut behind her. Ryan continued the short distance to the room and banged on the door. He had to get inside of that room because he was concerned about what Ajana might do in there by herself.

“Ajana, open this door. We don’t have time to play around like this. If you want my help, you need to let me inside of that room.”

“You aren’t getting in here. I swear you aren’t going to trick me again. You told Sergeant Carelli I was here,” Ajana hollered at him through the closed door. “You proved whose side you were on by calling him today and trying to keep it a secret from me.”

“I’m not trying to turn you in to my boss. I had to check in or he would have gotten suspicious. Don’t you understand what I’m trying to tell you? If I was truly working to get you tossed in prison, I could have turned you in last night while you were asleep. Did I do that to you? No, I didn’t. Damn woman. You have to start trusting me or this situation between us isn’t going to work and I mean it. Open this door!”

Ryan stood outside the door wondering if he had gotten through to Ajana. Sometimes he thought he knew her and then she would do something like she did downstairs and totally mess with the image he was building of her. God, he couldn’t keep doing this back and forth with her. She either had to believe he was on her side or he was just going to walk away. He had already given up so much for her and she was acting like he hadn’t done a damn thing to help her.

A soft click sounded as Ajana unlocked the door and a second later it was swung open. “How did you expect me to react when I heard about the phone call to your boss? You know how I feel about him.”
